One of the things that I am really excited about right now is making my own baby food. It saves a ton of money and I know exactly what is going into my baby’s tummy. I am a full time working mommy, so I don’t have a lot of time, and making your own baby food REALLY doesn’t take long at all.

Baby L is 7 months old now and has just moved up to “Stage 2” foods. What does that mean?
- More variety
- More texture
- More possibilities!
Fall is here and I thought pumpkin would be just the thing to kick off the season.
I started out with a Pie Pumpkin. I bought it at Target for $1.99. I didn’t want to go all out and buy a jumbo pumpkin in case Baby L decided this was the ONE food he doesn’t like.
Start off by preheating your oven to 400 degrees. Rinse off your pumpkin really good, cut the stem off, then cut in half.
Scoop out all the seeds and stringy flesh. Keep the seeds to roast later for a snack. Place pumpkins on a foil lined baking sheet face down and cook for at least 60 minutes, or until soft.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 60 minutes. Scoop out all of the pumpkin goodness and you can either mash in a bowl with a spoon or place in a blender. I really love my Ninja Blender. It depends on what stage food your little one is on and how chunky their foods need to be. Add water as needed until you reach your desired consistency; for me that was about a 1/2 cup.
As you can see, my little Pie Pumpkin made about 2 cups (16 ounces) of puree. That comes out to 8-2 ounce servings (7 to freeze, 1 for dinner tonight). Next, I divided up the puree into my Kiddo Feedo tray and popped it into the freezer. Done!
I let it freeze overnight and then transfer to a freezer bag for storage. Homemade baby food can last for up to 3 months in the freezer but it’s best to try and use within a month. Let thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.
Pumpkin is very bland by itself, get creative and add some apple, banana or cinnamon to make this more tasty for your little one!
