Very soon the Casey Clan is moving into a brand new home! New to us anyway. 🙂 We are moving from a rental and buying a house. The process has actually been very quick and easy for us. We had a deadline to move and we were VERY motivated to find a new home for our growing family.
As most of you know, when you move from a rental, it’s like pulling teeth trying to get some (if any!) of that deposit back, so I have been going through the house trying to get things squeaky clean, and one of my favorite (easy) household recipes is my homemade dishwasher cleaner. You can buy tablets and such on Amazon but I love to save money (who doesn’t) and I also love to use natural ingredients/products whenever possible.

This “recipe” calls for:
1 1/4 Cups Citric Acid (I like to use this one)
3/4 Cup Baking Soda
1 tbsp. Lemon Essential Oil (or grapefruit, or lime – use your favorite “clean” scent)
I throw everything into my Ninja blender and blend on high until it is thoroughly mixed. After that, I put it into a quart size bag (label it), and store it under my sink between uses. You will want to use 1/4 cup in the bottom of an empty dishwasher (run on normal wash) once a month. If you are just starting to clean your dishwasher regularly, you may want to use weekly until the build up has gone away.
This recipe makes roughly 8 uses. So once you get to where you are using it once a month, that’s 8 months worth! It really is a little bit of effort for a whole lot of output.
